It's time to move Queensland past coal

Incoming Queensland Premier, Steven Miles, has finally refused Clive Palmer's Galilee coal fired power station. This is an important moment, that you have helped bring about. It's the first time the Queensland Government has refused a coal fired power station and is a sign of their commitment to building a renewable energy future for Queensland. We are excited that Minister Miles has taken a stand against continuing to develop coal fired power as one of his final acts before becoming Premier.

However, the Government is still refusing to accept the climate impacts of new coal mines developed here. Queensland's Coordinator General has recently recommended that the new Winchester South greenfield coal mine be approved in the Bowen Basin. This mine will release more than a million tonnes of fugitive emissions directly in Queensland's atmosphere, as well as more than 500 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the global atmosphere.

Queensland's Department of Environment and Science, under Minister, Leanne Linard, has until 22 December to make a decision on Winchester South.

Thank Steven Miles for his leadership and ask him to make sure Minister Linard and DES protect our climate by refusing the Winchester South coal mine.
